Separate three claims

Resolution is the size of the displayed or marked increment. Repeatability describes returning to the same position under the same conditions. Accuracy concerns how closely that position agrees with the intended or measured result. A finely marked scale can be easy to read yet still require a test piece to verify the joint.

SpeTool describes a 0.001-inch scale resolution for its P01002 and states 0.05 inch of carriage travel per revolution. Those are different specifications: one describes the markings, the other the nominal movement for a complete turn. Neither figure is an independent measured tolerance for your finished woodwork.

What backlash feels like

When reversing the crank, clearance within a threaded mechanism can allow some rotation before the carriage changes direction. That lost movement is commonly called backlash. It can make an apparently small correction behave differently depending on the direction from which you approach the target.

With power disconnected, follow the lift manual’s setting method and use a consistent approach for final measurements. Do not tighten internal thread-tension parts simply because you can feel a change in resistance. Adjustment procedures vary, and removing all perceptible play by force can create binding or wear.

Follow the error to its source

If a measured height returns consistently but the joint does not, inspect the other references: stock thickness, plate seating, fence position and cutter installation. A workpiece rocking over a low plate can change the cut without any carriage movement. The plate alignment check addresses that separate source of error.

Keep a simple record of target height, measured height after locking and result on a representative test piece. This makes a pattern visible without inventing a tolerance that the equipment has not demonstrated. Recheck after a motor or cutter change because those disturb the relationship between the scale and the cutting edge.
