Sketch the table in both working and stored positions

Include the motor and moving carriage below the top, not just the plate outline. A shelf that clears the motor at one height may obstruct it at another. Check dust-hose bends, electrical leads and access to controls through the expected travel.

If the table is stored on a shelf or moved between benches, account for the complete assembly rather than the lift alone. Follow the table manufacturer's handling and support requirements. An installed motor changes the shape and balance of what you are moving.

Decide whether the router stays installed

A dedicated table motor can save setup time, but it adds cost and occupies space even between projects. Sharing one router is economical only if removing and reinstalling it is a task you are willing to repeat.

For a shared router, read the motor-mounting procedure before buying. Keep the original base, fasteners and case organized so handheld use does not turn into a search for parts. For a dedicated motor, broad future compatibility may matter less than a documented match to the one you choose now.

Spend on the feature you will notice

Store the crank, ring tool and router wrenches together. Keep a short record of the installed motor, lift version and ring sizes. That modest organization can matter more in an occasionally used workshop than a feature you have to relearn each time.

Use the clearance guide while planning the bench. If cost is the limiting factor, work through whether the upgrade is worthwhile before buying. A table-saw extension setup can conserve floor space, but it introduces its own support and access requirements.
