Start with the intended motor and cutters

The lift positions the router; it does not increase the motor's power or change its permitted cutter sizes. Choose the router and tooling for the work under their manufacturers' instructions, then identify lifts that support that exact motor.

JessEm's Mast-R-Lift II, the standard INCRA Mast-R-Lift II and SpeTool's P01002 each name the Porter-Cable 7518 in their published compatibility information. That is a useful model-specific starting point, not permission to substitute every motor described as full-size. A nominal horsepower label cannot replace the fit list.

Examine the interruptions between cuts

Repeated work often exposes small access problems. Is the crank socket reachable with your fence positioned for the job? Can you operate the lock without moving a dust hose? Do bit changes require dismantling part of the enclosure?

Make a short sequence for changing from one common setup to another. Include measuring the new cutter height and checking a sample piece. A lift that reduces awkward reaching can help this sequence; an extra scale alone cannot eliminate the checks.

Plan for cleaning and replacement parts

Frequent use makes access for maintenance a purchase criterion. Look for the model manual, exploded parts information and a supplier able to identify replacement components. Record the lift version before ordering parts: similar names can describe different generations.

Ask about the parts most likely to stop your work if lost or damaged, such as the adjustment handle, insert rings and model-specific mounting hardware. Availability today does not guarantee indefinite supply, but a documented identification route is more useful than an unsupported claim of lifetime service.

Check the table as part of the system

A robust carriage still needs a properly supported plate and table. Review the complete load and mounting instructions for the table rather than assigning a made-up capacity to the lift. Leave room for the motor, dust equipment and service access below the top.
