Choose support without cutter contact

Seating matters as much as size
Clear chips from the ring seat before fitting it. Use the specified ring wrench or locking method, then confirm the ring is secure and level with the surrounding surface. Do not file an unfamiliar ring until it fits, glue a loose one in place or use the cutter to enlarge its opening.
If stock catches at the central opening but crosses the plate’s outside edges smoothly, inspect the ring first. If the whole plate is uneven, follow the plate-leveling procedure. Keeping those faults separate avoids adjusting the table supports to compensate for one incorrectly seated ring.
Plan storage around the next bit change
A labeled rack or divided box keeps opening sizes visible and protects engagement tabs from being buried under heavier tools. Store the ring wrench beside the set. When removing a ring for above-table collet access, put it somewhere that stays clear of the work area instead of leaving it on the fence.
A ring fitted with a guide-bushing recess or dust openings has an additional intended function. Confirm that feature with the manufacturer rather than assuming any hole pattern will improve collection or accept a particular bushing. The basic purchase remains an exact ring-to-plate match.
