Router Motors & Under-Table Bases

Compare an existing-router upgrade with a dedicated setup.

Some router packages include bases you may not use with a lift. Separate the motor model from the kit name and compare the total configuration. An under-table base with above-table adjustment is also worth considering before buying a separate carriage.

Choose between using a base and adding a carriage

A router motor and an under-table base can form a usable mounting arrangement without a separate lift, depending on the equipment. Start by identifying which part performs the height adjustment. If the base offers access from above, the insert plate also needs the correctly positioned access point.

A dedicated lift instead holds the motor in its own carriage. The motor model needs to appear in that lift's compatibility documentation, including any required adapter configuration. A router kit name may cover several included bases, so identify the motor itself before comparing it with a chart.

For an existing router, inventory the parts you already own and the inconvenience you want to resolve. A new base may address adjustment access; a new lift may offer a different positioning routine. Neither purchase automatically provides a suitable table or plate. When comparing bundles, count only accessories you will use and include the remaining mounting components in the budget. Check bit-change access independently from height adjustment so the proposed setup solves both tasks in the way you expect.
